RE: camping in bear country

All you have to do is throw your table scraps under your neighbors trailer, they wont bother you. Of course im joking. Reminds me of the time many years ago that me and some of my college roomates went to Yosemite to tent camp. Signs and warnings everywhere "don't leave food out" "keep camp site clean". Sitting around the fire passing around a mix of vodka, orange juice, sprite , whatever else we could pour in to dilute the Vodka. Cooked up some grub, one at a time got up and stumbled to the tent. The next morning the pan was licked clean, a cantelope was eaten presicly down to a rind that was about 1mm thick, ice chest was opened and all remaining food was eaten, no crumbs left behind. Friends car had window smashed out and long bear hairs all around. Neighbors on both sides gone. Slept like a baby. I was young and dumb once.

Finalizing negotiations question

I am finalizing negotiations with a dealer in Las Vegas. I am in Hawaii but flying over in a little over a week to pick up a trailer and start full timing. I went online and found a Jayco 25RKS 2009 with the 15 K a/c. I want to negotiate a fair deal without grinding all the dealers profit out, so we are both happy. The web site says MSRP $23,788 next to the trailer that I want. I contacted the dealer and said that I would pay $19,000 even and an additional $450 for the anti sway hitch and brake controler installed. He contacted me and said the actual MSRP is $26,077 including freight. The $23,788 is their discounted rate which includes set up, propane and rv kit. But he would go down to $20,582 with hitch and break control which he said is $25% off suggested retail. It just seems strange that the web site has the $23,788 as MSRP. What do you guys think? Are the figures I'm seeing as purchase prices less freight? Getting confused here.

RE: 13.5 AC vs. 15K

Yeah Bonefish, I would be fine in Hawaii with the 13.5. Funny I never have seen a tt on the road here and there are 0 rv parks here. I am going to be on the mainland for at least a year traveling the California coast surfing and enjoying life. I'll keep doing it if I am enjoying it and dont run out of money. I also like the dry desert heat and beauty on ocassion and I have two sweet old dogs that like to sleep all day so I want to keep them cool.

13.5 AC vs. 15K

Is there much difference between the 13.5 and 15K. I am looking at buying a Jayco g2 25 rks and will be in cooler areas most of the time but would like to spend some time in the desert when it is hot. I have two older dogs and I want to make sure they are comfortable. What do you folks think?

RE: Negotiating Trailer Purchase

I am working with a dealer in Las Vegas. I will be relocating to the mainland and need a trailer to live and travel in for about a year. I am trying to get everything wrapped up before I arrive; then inspect the trailer and sign the paperwork.

RE: Negotiating Trailer Purchase

The trailer is an 08. Anyone heard of the Blue Ox anti sway hitch?

Negotiating Trailer Purchase

I am working with a dealer to purchase a new 2008 Jayco 25rks G2 with 15k a/c. They are giving me a price of $18,350 and it sounds pretty good. I asked them to throw in a Reece Dual cam or the Equalizer hitch. They came back and said they would throw in the brake control wiring and a Blue Ox hitch installed for an additional $475. Tow vehicle is a Dodge Ram 2500. I have not heard anything about the Blue Ox. Does this sound like a good deal and should I insist on a Reese or Equalizer. Any opinions on this are appreciated. This is my first TT so I am trying to get it right.

1 ton in California

I was talking to a Nevada Dodge Dealer today and he said that if I buy the Dodge 3500 I would need a commercial drivers license to register and drive in California because it is a 1 ton. He also said I would need commercial insurance which is more expensive. Does anyone know anything about this?

RE: Trucks with lift kits

Thanks for all of the replies. I am definetly not interested in the lifted trucks anymore. It was mainly the way they look that that I like but function and safety are far more important.

Trucks with lift kits

I am shopping for a tv and would like a diesel dodge 2500 or 3500. I have seen one with a lift kit and was wondering if this makes for poorer towing performance. Does anyone know the effect lifitng a truck has on towing?

Is a Hensley or similar hitch a must for newbie?

My family consisting of my wife myself and our two dogs are going to be full timing it for the next year or so. I am going to pick up a Dodge Ram diesel 2500 and most likely a Jayco 24rks g2. I plan on staying in state parks along the coast of California so I plan on getting the two honda 2000 generators as I plan on having the 15k a/c and may take trips to the desert. After much research and lurking on this forum for info that is the set up I plan on going with. I tow a little utility trailer around from time to time with my jeep but have never towed anything big like a tt. Will the Dodge tow the Jayco fine without the fancy hitch or should I dig deeper and buy the hitch from the get go? What do you guys think? I appreciate any info on this issue or any others.
